First win for Peja after a big drama

KB Peja recorded its first win in group D of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The team hosted KK Kozuv and won 77-76 after a more than dramatic final minutes. Both teams fought hard from start to finish and at the end the luck smiled on the hosts. With it they now have 1-1 record while Kozuv have lost both of their games. Both teams will play again in two weeks time with Kozuv hosting Levski 2014 and Peja visiting Sigal Prishtina.

Kozuv had a great start to the game and took an early 11-2 lead. Then they kept it for a long time and it reached 11 points. A Covington triple cut it to 8 after one quarter and in final minutes of the second Peja hit back. The visitors were still leading but in the last three minutes of the half the hosts made a 12-2 run and went to the locker rooms up by 4 points.

Penn opened the second half with a triple for Kozuv but Peja scored the next 6 points to take a lead of 7. The visitors managed to stay close and after White scored they went up by 1 and led after 30 minutes. Peja retook the lead immediately after the start of the fourth quarter as then both teams continued to fight hard. The visitors took advantage when they made 7-0 run to go up by 3 with little more than two minutes to play. With 1.21 to go the hosts tied the game and we were win for a dramatic finish. Both teams missed their next possessions and with the clock showing 34.3 until the buzzer Kozuv had the ball. It was stripped from Penn′s hands and Davis was fouled. He made only the second free throw and it gave the visitors a chance with 14 seconds to play. Penn managed to cover up for his mistake by scoring a jumper with 8.4 to go but the hosts still had their chance. They used it to perfection as Hajrizi found Nenad Delic and he scored the game winning basket 3 seconds before the buzzer. 

Drilon Hajrizi and Nenad Delic were the top performers for the winners as both finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Ronald Davis also had a good game with a double-double of 14 and 11.

Brandon Penn was the top scorer in the game with 23 points. Aleksej Nesovic scored 14 points as Ryan White had 12, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
