Mornar starts the Second Stage with a win

KK Mornar started the Second Stage in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League with a win. In a group C game the team from Bar hosted KB Bashkimi and took 78-63 victory. Mornar led for most of the match but few times the visitors managed to come close and the outcome wasn′t decided until the final five minutes. In two days Mornar will host Beroe and next week will visit Teodo. Bashkimi′s next game will be on February 23rd away at Beroe.

 

It was an even start to the game with both teams exchanging baskets. With not long to go until the end of the first quarter Mornar managed to go up by 5 and kept that difference. In the second they continued to lead with the margin going from 10 to 2 points. A 9-2 run in the last two minutes of the first half made it 11 points and Mornar went in to the break with good advantage.

 

With a good start of the second half the hosts increased their lead to 15. Bashkimi however responded and cut their deficit to 4 with two minutes to play in the quarter. They didn′t come closer but still after the end of it were down by only 6. Two minutes after the start of the last period Mornar was already again up by 11. From that moment on the hosts controlled the game finished it off with a good victory.

 

Both teams didn′t shoot well from the free throw line. The hosts were 11 of 18 for 61% while the visitors 15 of 29 for only 51%. Mornar also outrebounded their opponent 44 to 27 and had advantage in second chance points and points in the paint.

 

Top scorer for the winners was Balsa Radunovic with 24 points as he added also 9 rebounds. The two Americans that made their debut in BIBL also did well - Lamont Jones had 14 points and 5 assists while Robert Sampson finished with double-double after 13 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Andi Shehu had a good game for Bashkimi with 15 points as Tay Waller added 14.
