Domestic leagues: Beroe downed the champions in a thriller, easy for Academic

BC Beroe recorded a thrilling and important win in Bulgarian league. The Stara Zagora team hosted the champions Levski Lukoil and took 85-84 in a dramatic contets.

 

After a close first half Levski managed to pull away by 11 points in the third quarter. Beroe though answered with a 9-0 run to close the gap and then in the last period took the lead. Both teams exchanged points after and a triple by Nikolay Stoyanov broke a tie to give the hosts the advantage. Levski managed to add two free throws to cut the deficit and after an offensive foul the visitors had a chance to win. They however missed two shots in the final 8 seconds and Beroe and its fans celebrated.

 

Conner Frankamp was the top scorer for the winners with 24 points as Aleksandar Yanev added 15 and 7 rebounds.

 

Academic Bultex 99 recorded another win after downing Academic Sofia 85-72 at home. The Plovdiv side played a great first quarter to go p by 15 points and controlled the game after. In the final quarter however the visitors cut the deficit to just 6 points but an 8-0 run by the hosts decided the outcome.

 

Peter Olisemeka finished with a double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds for the winners while Daishon Knight was the top scorer with 19 points.

 

Beroe is second in the standings with 10 wins and 2 defeats but has also a game less than the leader Levski Lukoil who has 11-2 record. Academic Bultex 99 is 5th standings at 6-6 record.
