Two of the Serbian Eurohold Balkan League participants won close away games, while the third suffered a loss in another close one (at home) during the weekend in their local league.Radnicki 034 Group managed an over-time victory on the road against the league leaders themselves - Borac Cacak. The visitors from Kragujevac were trailing for 39 of the regular 40 minutes, sometimes by as much as 11 points. Yet, they fought bravely and their "never say die" attitude payed off when they were able to tie the game in the dying seconds and take it to a victorious extra time. Radnicki had used a 0-10 run to cut the favorites` lead to just a single point in the third quarter, then trailed again by 7 by the end of that, but played a great fourth to finish regular time tied at 72-72. They kept their cool in the extra 5 minutes and grabbed the victory by a 3-point margin - 89-92, giving the hosts only their second defeat in 13 games since the start of the season. Radnicki are now tied for 6-th in the table with another BIBL participant - Mega Hypo Leasing - both at 7-6. Rajko Kljajevic scored the most points for his team in Cacak - 21, Uros Duvnjak added 20, while veteran point guard Radovan Pesic had 17 points and 6 assists.
After the home loss, Borac now share the pole position in the Serbian League with the other Eurohold BIBL team - Swisslion Takovo Vrsac. The Lions defeated Radnicki Invest in Novi Sad by 61-66 and went up to 11-2 to tie Borac for 1st place in the standings. As we already mentioned it was a close affair too - the visitors led throughout, but never by too much, even letting the home team tie the scores on a few occasions. Eventually The Lions managed to hold on to the slender 2 point lead they had entering the final minute of the game and they had even increased it to 5 when the final buzzer sounded. Shooting guard Radovan Markovic had a very productive game, netting 5 triples and and a total of 26 points for his team`s win. Playmaker Sasa Ocokoljic was most valuable for Swisslion Takovo - 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
The young squad of Mega Hypo Leasing didn`t show such strong nerves in the final minutes against another team from the same city - Novi Sad Panonska Banka. The Belgrade boys were beaten at home 87-89 and that was their 6th defeat in the league, which meant they now had the same record as fellow BIBL participants Radnicki 034 Group. After they were in front 9-4 in the 3rd minute and 13-11 in the 6th, Mega HL conceded the lead and never managed to regain it. Novi Sad even had a whopping 19-point advantage 3 minutes after the break, but the Belgrade side rallied and cut it to just 1 point with only a few seconds to go. They weren`t able to complete the amazing come-back though, as the visiting team scored one of two free throws and then Strahinja Dragicevic committed a turnover in Mega`s last possession. Stefan Stojacic of Mega HL and Goran Pobric of Novi Sad led the scorers in the game with 22 points each. Center Uros Nikolic had 16 points and 8 boards in the loss.
