Domestic leagues: Beroe wins a very important one, no problems for Academic

After losing two straight games BC Beroe is back to the winning ways with style. In a battle for the second place before the third stage in Bulgarian league the Stara Zagora team hosted BC Balkan and won 89-80.

 

It was a close and entertaining game from start to finish as both teams exchanged runs. Beroe was the one which led for most of the team but the visitors were always close. Early in the fourth quarter the hosts went up by 9 but Balkan tied the game at 80 apiece. However in the last three minutes the visitors didn′t score while Conner Frankamp scored 8 of the last 9 points for Beroe which was enough.

 

Frankamp was the top scorer for the winners with 29 points as Trenton Coggins also did well by adding 24.

 

BC Academic Bultex 99 also finished the first part of the championship with a win. The Plovdiv side hosted Cherno more and took 92-80 victory after pulling away in the third quarter. Before that the match was close but near the end of the period the home side went up by 10 and controlled the game after.

 

Vasil Bachev had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as Peter Olisemeka added 17 points and 13 rebounds. Troy Franklin made his debut for the team by finishing with 16 points and 6 assists.

 

After 16 rounds Beroe is in second place with 12 wins and 4 defeats while Academic is 5th with 8-8 record. Next week the teams will play their semifinal games for the Bulgarian cup.
